The next Milford Conversation, an informal group that meets monthly to discuss various topics related to Milford, will feature travel as the topic. Representatives from a local travel agency as well as the Milford and Harrington Senior Center, who also offer travel services to places all over North America and Europe, will be on hand to make a presentation and answer questions. The meeting is planned for Thursday, August 8 at 8:30 AM in the First Presbyterian Church in Milford.

“Whether you are planning a trip or just dreaming about places you’d like to go, you should plan to attend,” John Huntzinger, organizer of the Milford Conversation, said. “The program is free and open to all, especially those who are new to our area who would like to become more involved in our community. Just a note, if the conversations wander off to another topic, that is fine, we have coffee.”

The importance of a vacation to one’s mental health is well documented in psychological journals. According to mental health specialists, travel can improve mental, physical and emotional well-being. Dr. Marais Bester, an occupational therapist, pointed out that not all vacations have to be extravagant or expensive.

“Even taking a last-minute weekend trip to a place that provides you with joy will give you a well-needed boost,” Dr. Bester said. “Studies have shown that a minimal planning for a break is necessary in order to keep the stress away, such as planning accommodations. travel journey and who is taking care of the children, pets or workload while you are away. If that his handled correctly, there is a strong relationship between energy restoration and happiness with taking a break.”

Tourism in Delaware is growing with more people choosing to visit the First State. According to Visit Delaware, in 2022, the last year information was compiled, tourism contributed $4.5 billion to the state’s economy. That year, there were 9.8 million overnight visitors to the state and the tourism industry is the fourth largest employer in Delaware, accounting for over 52,000 jobs. These visitors generated $690 million in tax revenue and, without that revenue, every Delaware household would have to pay an additional $1,764 in taxes.

Delaware is not alone in seeing the benefits of visitors. Around the globe, tourism creates jobs, strengthens the economy and contributes local infrastructure development. It can also improve natural habitats, preserve cultural assets and traditions while reducing poverty and inequality.

Refreshments are provided at the Milford Conversation and the church address is 101 South Walnut Street. Parking is available behind the church and the entrance is through the back door with the handicap entrance sign. Walk through the kitchen into the library where the meeting will take place.

“We are low key, no drama, just friends,” Huntzinger said. “Feel free to invite friends or bring your neighbors. Upcoming themes include music in September and navigating Medicare in October. If there is a topic you would like to discuss, email [email protected].”
