Travel + Leisure readers say 2 Mass. hotels are among the best in the world

Travel enthusiasts appear to have memorable stays in Massachusetts, as Travel + Leisure readers determined that two of the best hotels in the world are in the Bay State.

Travel + Leisure asked readers to cast their votes for the best hotels from around the world through the outlet’s World’s Best Awards survey.

More than 186,000 readers filled out the 2024 survey, and more than 700,000 votes were cast over 8,700 properties, including hotels, cities and cruise lines.

Of the 100 hotels to make the final cut this year, 16 were in the United States and two in Massachusetts.

Ranked at No. 16 was The Winnetu Oceanside Resort in Martha’s Vineyard, which also took the No. 1 spot in T+L’s Best New England Resorts list.

Family-owned since 1936, the resort was praised for its “great location” in Edgartown that spans 11 acres of private beach.

T+L readers also applauded the resort’s “outstanding family programming, and menu options at The Dunes restaurant.”

Further down the list, at No. 30, was Candleberry Inn in Brewster. With one T+L reader comparing it to “a big warm hug,” the hotel was named the best property on T+L’s Best Continental U.S. Inn list.

“Priding itself on ‘simple elegance,’ the Candleberry Inn offers a comfortable stay in a historic home in the heart of Cape Cod,” T+L wrote. “A quintessential New England experience.”

The inn has also been voted the best Bed & Breakfast in the United States and the seventh best in the World by TripAdvisor in 2024.

Two other hotels in New England also made the list. The Norumbega in Camden, Maine was listed at No. 52 while Quisisana Resort in Lovell, Maine was ranked 85th.
