Travel tips if you are travelling by air for the holiday

We are getting you ready for the busiest travel time of the year outside of Christmas.

You can expect those roads to be the most crowded Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon leading into Thanksgiving.

And if you’re flying, the South Bend International airport is expecting a record number of flyers starting Wednesday.

Many people are familiar with the 311 rules when it comes to what liquids you can and cannot bring on the aircraft.

Officials say there are a few items specific to Thanksgiving that you might be able to take with you if you follow some key instructions.

With the addition of direct flights through Breeze Airways and an extra flight to Knoxville by way of Allegiant.

South Bend International Airport has expanded its flight capacity by 25% from last year.

16,000 travelers are expected to arrive and depart between Wednesday and Sunday.

Officials say it’s important to take advantage of the unique ways you can travel with your own contribution to the Thanksgiving meal.

“So, gravy you actually can travel with in your carry-on as long as it is frozen solid when you get through that security checkpoint. Pies are permitted as a carryon item. Any solid food is permitted as a carry-on item. And of course, if you wrap anything properly you can put that in your checked bag,” said Julie Curtis, VP Marketing Air Service and Development South Bend International Airport.
