We’ve all heard of Black Friday, Cyber Monday and even Small Business Saturday. These post-Thanksgiving holidays are defined by their exclusive deals and discounts, officially kicking off the holiday shopping season. However, in recent years a new shopping holiday has started to grab people’s attention. This day is known as Travel Tuesday.
What is Travel Tuesday?
Travel Tuesday, also known as Travel Deal Tuesday, according to online-booking platform Hopper, is “a national shopping event where consumers can expect to see more deals on travel than any other day in the post-Thanksgiving sales period.”
The day has gained increasing interest over the past couple of years, according to McKinsey and Company which found that online searches for Travel Tuesday showed more than a fivefold increase over a two-year period. While it is a concept that has, so far, remained specific to North America, it is slowly growing around the world.
“Travel Tuesday as a marketing concept is gaining traction,” says McKinsey and Company. “A day centered on travel deals seems like a potential fit for a moment when people are yearning to travel more than ever before but are often in search of discounts because of rising living costs.”
Data provided to McKinsey and Company by travel marketing platform Sojern indicates that Travel Tuesday saw “notable increases” in hotel, cruise and airline booking by United States travelers, compared with the two weeks before and after, in 2023.
When is Travel Tuesday 2024?
This year, Travel Tuesday falls on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
