Travel warnings issued throughout the Tri-State as winter storm carries on
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – With an upgraded travel advisory in Vanderburgh County, most people in the Tri-State are in for the night.
A travel warning means local officials are asking that all drivers stay off the roads so that emergency management officials can work.
Currently in the Tri-State, three counties are under a travel advisory warning. Vanderburgh County, of course, but also Perry and Dubois County.
This advisory means if you are in one of these areas refrain from being on the roads and comply with necessary emergency measures.
This travel advisory is for your own safety, as the roads are still very slick with all the freezing rain on Sunday, but also, the order to stay off the roads makes room for emergency responders to access those needing help.
First responders are completely overwhelmed with calls.
Utility workers and firefighters have been out all evening in the weather, taking care of downed power lines, limbs and trees that have blocked roads or sparked fires.
This is causing major safety hazards all over the area.
If you see something like that in the street, you should do what we did which is to call 911.
