Traveling 95,000 Miles On $25 A Day – Adventure Rider

Welcome to Episode 5 of the Lowdown Podcast, with writer/filmmaker Neil Graham talking to insiders and enthusiasts from the world of motorcycles. This week’s guest is Rene Cormier, a name that many long-time ADV travelers will know. Rene’s adventures were the basis of his book The University of Gravel Roads, and inspired him to start his own moto touring business that takes travelers worldwide. Based out of South Africa and Canada, Renedian Tours takes motorcyclists to all corners of the world.

But what if you can’t afford to pay for a guided tour? One of the biggest problems that holds people back from traveling the world is the question of finding the cash to fund the adventure. This isn’t a new problem. About 20 years ago, when Rene Cormier was on his 95,000-mile world tour, he was on a shoestring budget. But he was determined to make it work. He managed to pull off the RTW tour in four-and-a-half years, all on a budget of $25 a day.

As he points out in the interview, that might not be possible today. However, the mindset that Rene Cormier used to travel the world affordably in the early 2000s can still be used today, to have a moto adventure on a modest budget.
