Traveling business sets up shop in mid-Michigan to sell Lions merch

GENESEE CO., Mich. (WNEM) – Lions pride is at an all-time high as the team secured the NFC North Championship.

The Detroit Lions are now on a bye week and will play next weekend.

And as the Lions continue on the road to the Super Bowl, a local business at the corner of Torrey and Thompson roads in Genesee County is helping you cheer on the team in style.

“We got Goff, we got Hutchinson, we got Gibbs, we got St. Brown, I think I got Montgomery coming. Plus, we got some really cool designs. One of them says ‘Restore the Roar,’ it’s got a big lion on it. ‘Unfinished Business,’ and ‘City of Champions,’” said Todd Baker, who is selling Lions merchandise.

T-shirts, hoodies, and a whole lot of One Pride.

“Even with all of our injuries, I mean, we might have the largest amount of injuries in the NFL, but look how we’re doing. I mean, wow,” Baker said.

Baker, a mid-Michigan man, travels all over the country with his wife selling sports swag. Now, he’s set up shop closer to home with tents filled with Detroit Lions merchandise in Flushing and Fenton.

“My wife and I have been doing retail for about 25 years, and we’ve recently in the last six, seven years gotten into sports retail. We primarily do NASCAR retail. But now we’re doing a sports retail and it’s awesome because we’re doing Lions stuff and we live here,” Baker said. “Right now, we’ve got a permit location at Wendy’s on Pearson Road by Elms and right now we’re standing at Torrey and Thompson Road, Fenton Lanes.”

And there’s no shortage of Honolulu blue as the Lions’ historic run continues into playoffs.

“Especially after winning against the Vikings, you know, we’re keeping the No. 1 seed. We’re really picking up a little bit now,” Baker said.

As a lifelong fan, Baker believes the team has enough grit to defend the den and go all the way.

When asked if he ever though the Lions would make it this far, Baker said, “No, I don’t think any of us did. We really didn’t. We thought we were just going to be the Lions that the Lions were, and then the last couple years, here we are, baby. We’re the best in the NFL right now, I think. I don’t know how to put that into words. I’m just, I’m loving it.”

Baker said they hope to be out selling merchandise through the Super Bowl, with fingers crossed for the Lions to win it all.

In addition to the Flushing and Fenton locations, Baker said they’re also working on opening a tent at Village Pharmacy in downtown Owosso.
