Traveling for Thanksgiving? Farmers’ Almanac releases holiday travel forecast

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is among the busiest travel periods of the year.

Whether you’re traveling across town to see family or to another part of the country, it’s important to know the weather forecast.

According to AAA, 88.7% of Thanksgiving travelers are driving to their destination. You need to know the road conditions. For the 8.5% of travelers flying, you still need to know the conditions you’re flying into and what delays you might face.

Here’s a look at the projected forecast.

When is Thanksgiving 2024?

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, Nov. 28, which is the latest date possible for Thanksgiving.

Since 1941, Thanksgiving has been held on the fourth Thursday in November. The earliest date Thanksgiving can fall on is Nov. 22.

From 1938 to 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt moved Thanksgiving to the third Thursday in November to expand the holiday sales season.

Farmers’ Almanac Thanksgiving forecast

Farmers’ Almanac released its Thanksgiving forecast, and for a majority of the country, it looks like traveling should be very easy.

The entire eastern third of the country should have varying seasonal temperatures, but outside of Maine, the temperatures should remain above freezing making travel easier. This will be good news for most airport hubs like Chicago, Atlanta, Charlotte, New York and Washington, D.C.

If you’re looking for warmer-than-average temperatures, your best bets are the peninsula of Florida, southern Texas, most of California and a section of the central and north-central United States – warmer than average being relative for that region.
