Trump is “world-class hypocrite” over Harris interview claims: Mary Trump

Donald Trump’s estranged niece Mary Trump has branded the former president a “world-class hypocrite” after he called for CBS to be stripped of its broadcasting license, claiming the network produced a misleading edit of Kamala Harris‘s 60 Minutes interview.

Writing on her blog, Mary Trump alleged that her uncle’s interviews “have been edited in order to make him look better,” linking to a The New Republic article from June which suggested Fox News edited a Trump interview to “help him sound normal.”

Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are locked in a tight battle to win next month’s presidential election, with a recent FiveThirtyEight study giving the Democrat a 53 percent chance of victory versus 47 percent for her Republican rival. Mary Trump has emerged as a fierce critic of her uncle who she has branded “a fascist” and a “born autocrat.” In 2020, she published Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, which was fiercely critical of her uncle.

On Monday, CBS broadcast an in-depth interview with Harris on its 60 Minutes show. According to CBS, Trump backed out of doing a similar interview after learning his claims would be fact-checked, which his campaign described as “unprecedented.”

Conservatives on social media posted clips of the preview of Harris’s 60 Minutes interview next to the final broadcast version, claiming her answer when asked whether the U.S. lacks influence with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been edited to benefit her campaign. Harris’s team told Fox News Digital it had nothing to do with the decision and it is standard for networks to broadcast edited interviews due to time restraints.

In a furious Truth Social post, Trump claimed the 60 Minutes edit was “the Single Biggest scandal in Broadcast History” and later added: “CBS should lose its license, and it should be bid out to the Highest Bidder, as should all other Broadcast Licenses, because they are just as corrupt as CBS—and maybe even WORSE!”

Mary Trump hit back in a blog post, commenting: “Donald is a world-class hypocrite, it turns out his interviews have been edited in order to make him look better.” She linked to a June article from The New Republic which said online commentators thought a Trump interview with Fox News had been edited to make him sound more coherent.

Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of Trump critical media outlet Meidas Touch, wrote: “Fox and Friends has to tape and edit the hell out of Trump’s interview as usual. They can’t go live with him anymore because he’s a deranged rambling mess.” Newsweek has not independently verified that Trump’s interview with Fox and Friends was edited in any way.

In her blog post, Mary Trump also said: “I’ve seen and heard enough of Vice President Harris’ interviews—as well as her commanding performance at the debate—to know that she, unlike Donald, does not need to help to look good. She doesn’t need suspect edits and she doesn’t need to receive the questions ahead of time in order to communicate her compelling, thoughtful, and fact-based strategies for improving the lives of Americans.”

Newsweek contacted CBS News and the Donald Trump and Kamala Harris presidential campaigns for comment on Saturday by email outside of regular office hours.

In a separate blog post published on October 6, Mary Trump claimed that if her uncle is elected in November, “all of his energy will be dedicated to grifting and revenge.”

On Thursday, Trump was endorsed by Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker who said: “I’m supporting the president that’s going to be the most pro-life president.

“It’s a topic that is the most crucial topic for me. I want us to be fighting for the most vulnerable, fighting for the unborn.”
