Trump’s Charlotte fundraiser co-hosted by CEO of controversial veterans business

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Donald Trump’s fundraiser in Charlotte is being co-hosted by the CEO of a company that’s spent years under fire by veterans and veteran-focused organizations.

Scott Greenblatt, who founded the company Veterans Guardian, is listed as a host of Trump’s fundraiser being held this Saturday in Charlotte.

Veterans Guardian has been the subject of multiple WBTV investigations; focusing specifically on the company’s work helping veterans appeal their VA disability rating in exchange for a fee tied to the amount of extra money they receive.

Veterans can get that same service from a veteran service officer for free.

The company has come under fire from veterans and national veteran’s groups. An official with the American Legion called the company “a pack of vultures” in an interview with WBTV in 2022.

More recently, the company received a cease-and-desist letter from the VA and is currently the subject of a federal class action lawsuit, filed by a veteran who claimed she was illegally charged fees by Veterans Guardian.

A spokeswoman for the Trump Campaign, Karoline Leavitt, sent a statement in response to questions for this story that did not address whether Trump supported Greenblatt’s business.

“President Trump’s support and fight for our brave veterans and every single American is unmatched. A hit piece from a deranged liberal reporter, who does the bidding of Joe Biden’s campaign, won’t change that,” Leavitt said.

A spokesman for Veterans Guardian sent the following statement:

“Veterans Guardian has no issue with its employees participating in the democratic process in their own personal capacities, as Scott has done periodically over the years. Scott’s political involvement has nothing to do with the company’s mission to empower disabled veterans to secure the benefits they have earned for their service to our country.”

The host committee contributed or raised $250,000, according to the invitation for the fundraiser.

Trump will attend Saturday’s private event in Charlotte and will also be in Wilmington for a rally that evening.
