BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – The busiest travel day and week of the year has arrived, with the July 4 holiday now just six days away.

Independence day in years passed has resulted in large flows of travel surrounding the holiday and this year is no different.

TSA expects more than 32 million travelers to walk through the security lines at airports nationwide between the days of June 27 through July 8. That is a 5.4 percent increase from this time last year.

AAA expects a 27,000 person increase in those traveling on the fourth of July holiday this year, estimating a total of 5.74 million travelers nationwide.

TSA is anticipating the heavy traffic and is expected to be staffed to match it, reporting a 10 minute and under TSA Precheck lane and 30 minutes and under in standard screening lanes.
