Two-time cancer survivor brings hope, healing with fashion and concert fundraiser

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A special fashion show and concert event in Ewa this month aims to celebrate women and raise money to support cancer survivors and their families.

Kumu hula Iwalani Walsh Tseu, native Hawaiian pioneer and fashion icon, survived breast and cervical cancer, and now hosts an annual breast cancer awareness fundraiser every October to inspire other survivors, offer hope and healing, and remember those who have lost loved ones to cancer.

This year‘s theme is “Hats Off” and attendees are invited to dress up in pink and don their favorite headwear.

The event features food, entertainment and a rummage sale and takes place on Oct. 27, Sunday, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Tseu’s Healing Garden, 91-2270 Old Fort Weaver Road across from Kahi Mohala.

Beloved local artist Melveen Leed will perform from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..

Part of the proceeds will help support Tseu’s current project — a coffee table book of photographs and interviews with prominent and influential women of Hawaii aimed to motivate others to prioritize health.

“Filipinos and Hawaiians have the highest rate of breast cancer here in Hawaii. My daughters are both Hawaiian and Filipino. I was hit twice and have lost lots of family and friends over the years to cancer: cultural practitioners, business and community leaders alike, people who made a big difference in our communities over the years, especially in the Hawaiian and Filipino communities,” Tseu said.

“I want future generations to know these women, their stories and the impact they’ve had on the world that this generation is living in now.”

Tickets are $65. To donate or for more information, call Pacita Ignacio at 808-428-3308.
