UDOT to close east and westbound travel at 13400 South and Bangerter Highway in Riverton

Closure estimated to last until fall 2025

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will close east and westbound travel at 13400 South and Bangerter Highway in Riverton the night of Friday, October 11, while crews continue work on a new freeway-style interchange.

The closure, which begins as early as 9 p.m. on Friday, is expected to last through fall of 2025.

Throughout the closure, most left-hand turns from Bangerter will not be allowed. To keep traffic moving, UDOT will still allow northbound motorists to turn left (west) on 13400 South throughout the closure.

Prior to the closure, drivers can expect shifting travel lanes, lane closures and delays throughout the weekend as crews prepare the road for a new traffic configuration. The final traffic configuration—which will remain in place until the fall of 2025—will be in place by Monday, October 14.

Once the east and westbound closure is in place, drivers will still be able to turn right to get on and off of Bangerter Highway at 13400 South. Drivers who need to travel across Bangerter at 13400 South can detour to 12600 South, Old Liberty Way and 3600 West.

This closure is part of UDOT’s decade-long efforts to eliminate stoplights on Bangerter Highway by converting intersections into interchanges. In addition to 13400 South, UDOT is building interchanges at 4700 South, 9800 South and 2700 West

Bangerter Highway is one of the valley’s largest north-to-south corridors, moving an average of 60,000 vehicles per day. Removing stoplights and converting all intersections into freeway-style interchanges will enhance safety and help keep traffic moving in the ever-growing west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
