Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 13
Charlie Morton – Higher than 5.0 Hits Allowed
Even as a lifelong Braves fan, I look at this line and think you have to fade Morton here. Morton got ripped around the park last time out, giving up eight runs on nine hits in less than three innings of work. While that was his worst outing of the year, he has been consistently giving up hits. He hasn’t stayed below this projection since the month of June and has averaged 6.0 hits allowed a game since that time. Although the Giants are sputtering a bit, they are a middle of the pack team in terms of team batting average and should find six hits.
Luis Arraez – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Okay, so Arraez isn’t the type that’s going to hit you a double. In fact, 81% of all of his hits are singles. So we’re pretty much calling for a multiple hit game with this projection. However, I’m fine with that because he’s been hot and has a good pitching matchup here. He’s 4-for-7 career against the young starter Luis Ortiz – who has looked far worse as of late. On a broader scale, Arraez has had three multiple hits games in his last five.
Tarik Skubal – Lower than 5.5 Hits Allowed
The Mariners rank near the bottom of the league in every offensive category. They are 30th in batting average and 28th in slugging percentage. They are 27th in run scoring and 30th in strikeouts. Now they face the best pitcher in the American League (the majors?) and I’m supposed to think that they’ll hit him for at least six hits? Skubal should cruise and keep the Mariners off the bags.
