Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 25

Jorge Soler – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases

Since injuring his hamstring playing the outfield, Soler has been brutal at the plate. It looks like he’s uncomfortable in the box and he’s chasing a lot of pitches. They’ve given him some days off and he missed with the injury, but the bottom line is that he hasn’t beat this projection since August 13th. That’s a long enough streak that I feel comfortable assuming his bat is quiet again.

Seth Lugo – Higher than 0.5 First Inn. Strikeouts

I know that Lugo isn’t a big strikeout guy. However, he does come out of the gate pretty quickly in most cases. In 26 starts this year, he has 20 strikeouts in the first inning. The good news for him is that Kyle Schwarber will lead off in this one. He’t struck out 12 times in his last five games. There’s a pretty good chance that this projection is passed just one batter in. However, even if Schwarber manages some contact, Bryce Harper has fanned eight times in his last five too.

Adley Rutschman – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

The Orioles backstop has a hit in every game in this series against the Astros. He’ll get a chance to make that four on Sunday against a familiar foe. Former divisional rival Yusei Kikuchi takes the hill Sunday for Houston. In his career, Rutschman is 9-for-23 (.391) against the lefty. More importantly, four of those nine hits have been for extra bases – including three homers. He should keep things doing and get on the board with another extra-base hit here too.
