Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – August 7
Ketel Marte – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
Marte comes into this game riding a seven-game hit streak. In five of those seven games, he’s cleared this projection. That seems to have gotten even better in terms of power as of late. He has homers in back-to-back games and has four total in the last four games. If things could get any better for him, they just did with Ben Lively pitching. He has a limited sample against the Guardians’ righty, but in those five at-bats, he has three hits with two being dingers.
Jose Altuve – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases
After hitting .316 in the month of July, it’s been a slow start to August for Altuve. However, facing Jose Urena again should help swing things back in the right direction for him. The two have faced each other seven times over their respective careers. Altuve has hits in six of those seven at-bats and all six of them have gone for extra bases – three doubles, two triples and a homer. Those results speak for themselves and I like him to get back on track.
Will Smith – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases
Two days ago I put together a winning entry that had exactly this play, and I’m not changing a thing. He had cleared this projection just once since July 14th, and had not had an extra-base hit since July 6th. That didn’t change with the two most recent games. He went a combined 0-for-8 in those games, dropping him to 1-for-21 in the last five. Whether or not the Phillies have their best arm on the hill seems somewhat irrelevant with this trend.
