Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick ‘Em Plays – July 30

Juan Soto – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Soto has been hot lately with the extra-base hits. While he has five games with multiple hits in his last eight, the sheer number of doubles and homers is what’s driving me to love this projection. Over that eight-game span he has nine extra-base hits. If we need any more value, the fact that he’s facing Aaron Nola doesn’t hurt. Over the course of their respective careers, 60% of all Soto’s hits off of him have gone for extra bases.

Gunnar Henderson – Higher than 1.5 Total Bases

Henderson comes into Tuesday’s action riding a five-game hitting streak. While he doesn’t quite have the extra-base numbers that Soto has, I do like his head-to-head matchup even more. In the small sambple he has against Chris Bassitt, he’s seen him extremely well. He’s a career 3-for-6 against the Blue Jays righty with two of those three hits leaving the park. I think he extends the hitting streak here and I like his chances for extra bases.

James Wood – Lower than 1.5 Total Bases

While some people are being lulled into a false sense of confidence from Wood following Saturday’s four-hit game, I’m a little less bullish. If you take Saturday’s performance out of his stat line, he’d be hitting just .206 on the year. While he’s hit this mark in two of his last three games, he’s also hit in in two of his last seven games. I know the long-term is bright for him, but I think he’s still just a bit over his head.
