Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick‘em Plays – July 23

Paul Skenes Higher Than 7.5 Strikeouts

I have raved about Paul Skenes in an article before the All-Star game and rightfully predicted he would start in the game! He’s at the top of the baseball world at the young age of 22. His last start before the All-Star break was his best by far. 7.0 innings, 11 Ks, and ZERO hits. Just dominating stuff.

Skenes will face the Cardinals’ offense on Tuesday. The Cardinals’ offense is prone to strikeouts, and they strike out the 13th most in baseball. I think Skenes can easily reach this 7.5 number as long as he keeps his pitch count down.

Gleyber Torres Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs

I told myself I would stop choosing Gleyber Torres for my selections, but I’m going back to the well one more time. The Mets take the subway to the Bronx to face the Yankees on Tuesday. A quick aside: it’s a travesty that these two teams don’t play every 9/11.

Anyway, Torres will face Jose Quintana, a left-handed pitcher without overpowering stuff. This is a recipe for success for Torres. Torres is also 3-6 with a double against Quintana, with an average exit velocity of 97.5! I think Gleyber comes up clutch for us here.

Francisco Lindor Higher Than 7.5 Fantasy Points

Lindor was crushed for his slow start to the season, but he has really picked it up recently. Since May 19th, Lindor is slashing .309/.390/.555 with 12 homers and 14 SB. It’s honestly criminal he didn’t get selected for the All-Star team. You can even make the argument he is one of the top five most valuable players in the entire sport.

Lindor and the Mets will face the Yankees youngster Luis Gil, who saw success early in the season but struggled in June and July. Lindor is 2-3 with 2 doubles against Gil. Lindor will be ready for the even brighter lights of Yankee Stadium.
