Underdog Fantasy MLB Daily Pick’em Plays – September 25

Juan Soto Higher Than 8.0 Fantasy Points

Soto and the Yankees are one win against the Orioles away from hoisting the AL East Crown. Baltimore took game one of the series, and now the Yankees need to find a starting pitcher, as Nestor Cortes was scratched due to an elbow issue. The New York lineup will face Zach Eflin on Wednesday.

Soto has faced Eflin quite a bit in his career from Eflin’s time in Philadelphia. Soto is 17-34 against him with four doubles and two home runs. September has been one of the worst months of the season for Soto, yet he has a .831 OPS—laughable stuff.

Eflin has had a solid September yet has a 4.13 ERA on the road this season. I expect Soto to come through for us in this spot.

David Peterson Higher Than 4.5 Strikeouts

The Mets find themselves one game ahead of the Braves in the NL Wild Card race. As it sits now, the Mets are in the second Wild Card spot. Atlanta is nipping at their heels and took the first game of the series last night. Tonight, David Peterson is on the hill for New York. At first glance, you would say this is a bad matchup for Peterson. Atlanta’s lineup is right-handed heavy, and Peterson is a lefty.

This may be true, but I like Peterson to rake in the strikeouts here. He has faced Braves hitters 112 times in his career and has an impressive 30.4% K-rate. Peterson’s strikeout numbers have been all over the place this season, but the Braves strike out the 8th most in baseball. This is a must-watch game, and we’ll see who comes out in front!

Charlie Blackmon Higher Than 0.5 Runs

Full disclosure: I’m not very confident about this pick, but I’m going with it for the vibes. Charlie Blackmon announced he will be retiring at the end of the season. The 37-year-old has had an extremely solid and underrated 14-year career. Tonight, Blackmon faces Cardinals starter Erick Fedde, who he is 6-11 off of in his career.

I’m not thinking too far into this one, and I’m just rolling with Blackmon.
