Unlocking The Psychology Of Online Shopping: A Deep Dive
Ever wondered if retail therapy is still a thing for 2025? A new consumer report has the latest on the shopping habits of Americans. The report shares the secrets on online shopping, revealing that over 90% of us have said goodbye to our digital shopping carts at some point.
52% of New Yorkers say that online shopping has therapeutic powers. It’s like a slice of zen in the middle of digital chaos, filling up those carts with goodies, and feeling good about it, even if we never hit ‘Purchase’!
39% of us admitted that there’s a little skip in our step when we fill our carts. It’s like a mini rush with every click of the ‘Add to Cart’ button. Crafting the perfect online cart is an art, and nearly 70% of us take multiple rounds to put together our ensemble.
It’s all about comparison. Just ask Christian de Looper, the tech expert who uses his cart to find the best deals before sealing the deal. There’s a flip side to this digital shopping extravaganza. Around 1 in 4 of us admit that we might be crossing the line with our online splurges and have found ourselves in debt because of our digital shopping.
Let’s not forget about the allure of ‘fantasy shopping’. Over 1 in 2 of us are guilty of stuffing our carts with wish-list wonders and using it as retail therapy without the wallet sting.
Apparently, many digital shoppers like to look at luxury websites beyond what we can afford, and looking at what we would like to have. Be careful because some of us made those fantasies a reality, by accidentally hitting ‘Buy Now’ on an item that was meant to stay in the cart.
Whether you’re a comparison shopper or a ‘fantasy shopper’, remember to steer clear of those tempting digital carts if they could wreak havoc on your bank balance!
