Upper Peninsula luge club now open and ready for business in Negaunee

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) – A winter sports club in Negaunee is now open for the season and ready to welcome anyone looking to luge.

Organizers at the UP Luge Club say they were excited to open this year since this time last year they couldn’t because there was no snow.

They say every year the club attracts more people who decide to join after just a few visits.

Organizer Kirsten Matthews says luging is like an upgrade to sledding

“You can go a little further, go a little faster and you have a little more control,” Matthews said. “We use a special sled that brings you closer to the ground and gives you a chance to be able to steer. You use your body to steer a little bit more and you’re on an ice track so you can actually go a little faster and you can start as simple as you want.”

Organizers says tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children 15 and under for the whole day.
