UW-Whitewater Advances To NCAA Baseball World Series

WHITEWATER, Wis.–University of Wisconsin-Whitewater posted victories of 8-0 and 8-2 in Super Regional action at Prucha Field at Jim Miller Stadium on May 25, to earn a spot in the NCAA Division III Baseball World Series.
 
UW-Whitewater (40-9) will make its eighth World Series appearance and first since 2016. The Warhawks won the national crown in 2005 and 2014. Pool Play double-elimination action in this year’s championship will take place at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, May 31-June 6.
 
This will mark the third consecutive season that a team from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will participate in the World Series.

UW-La Crosse won the opening game in the best-of-three series 3-2. The Eagles completed the 2024 campaign with a 36-16 record and made their eighth NCAA appearance. UW-La Crosse won the La Crosse Regional to secure a spot in the Super Regional against the Warhawks.

In the series-clinching triumph over the Eagles, UW-Whitewater grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Eli Frank’s two-run home run to center field. The Warhawks added two more runs in the fourth inning on Bennett Frazer’s run-scoring single and a sacrifice fly by Frank.

 

UW-La Crosse got within 4-1 in the fifth inning on Tim Urlaub’s sacrifice fly, however, Aaron Holland helped UW-Whitewater regain a four-run advantage in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single to center field.

 

Mac Born got the Eagles within 5-2 on an RBI groundout in the sixth inning.

 

Matt Scolan belted a three-run home run to right center in eighth inning to give UW-Whitewater an 8-2 lead.

 

Jack Hagen tossed a complete game for UW-Whitewater to improve to 9-0 on the season. He scattered eight hits, struck out three, gave up one walk and did not allow an earned run.

 

Holland finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs on an RBI, while Paden was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Frazer was 3-for-4 with one run scored and an RBI.

 

UW-La Crosse had multiple hits from Chris VandenHeuvel (3-for-4) and Jack Olver (2-for-4), while starting pitcher Owen Anderson received the loss for just the second time this season (4-2).
