Vampire thriller ‘Abigail’ takes largest bite in quiet box office weekend
“Abigail” led a quiet box office Friday.
The horror thriller took in $4 million in sales in its debut in theaters, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo. There’s already talk of a sequel to the Gloria Holden-led updated version of “Dracula’s Daughter,” in which the Count’s offspring tries, and fails, to rid her herself of her vampirism, Variety reported.
In second place was Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” which saw $3.7 million in sales in its debut. The Post said the director “chooses fun over facts” in the fictionalized World War II story.
“Civil War,” which took first place a week ago, dropped to third with $3.3 million. The film which took $50 million to make, follows a team of military-embedded journalists racing against time to reach Washington, D.C. before rebel factions descend upon the White House.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” dropped from second place to fourth, with ticket sales of $2.33 million. The monster flick has taken in nearly $165 million domestically since its March 29 premiere, along with nearly $280 million on international screens.
In fifth place was the animated “Spy x Family Code: White,” with $2.3 million in sales in its first night in theaters.
