Vann Morrelli hits walk-off home run | News, Sports, Jobs
LAKE PLACID — Vann Morrelli hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Lake Placid baseball team to a 7-6 victory over the Moriah Vikings on Monday.
While the Blue Bombers led for most of the game, the Vikings rallied in the sixth inning with four runs to take a 6-5 lead. After tying the game at 6-6 and holding Moriah scoreless in the top of the seventh, Morrelli drilled his second home run of the season over the fence to improve the team’s overall record to 9-1.
Morrelli, Max Hyman and Will Landriault led the Blue Bombers’ 10-hit effort with two hits each. Hyman, Hyler Isham and Owen Hayes recorded a double in the win.
Moriah’s Jacob Mascarenas had two of his team’s four hits, which included one double.
The Vikings took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning, before Lake Placid tied the game at 2-2 in the third. The Blue Bombers scored at least one run in every inning from that point on.
Jarrett Mihill started on the mound for Lake Placid and pitched three innings, striking out one batter and recording just two earned runs. Jon Caito entered in relief during the fourth inning and struck out two Vikings batters, while earning the win.
Moriah’s Joe Pelkey pitched a complete game and earned the loss. Pelkey struck out one batter.
The Blue Bombers were slated to take on Wells on Tuesday, before returning home to face the Crown Point Panther today at 4:30 p.m.

The Lake Placid boys tennis team split with the Northeastern Clinton Cougars at home Monday evening. The boys topped Northeastern Clinton 5-0, while the girls lost 5-0.
On the boys side, Lake Placid swept through its singles matches with Henry Becker defeating Kaze Carpenter 6-2, 6-0 and Soren Jacobson beating Ben Brenahan 6-0, 6-2
In doubles play, the Blue Bombers’ Nash Carlisto and Parker Scantio defeated Alex Burliss and Cade Brooks 6-2, 6-3 and Owen Keal and Porter Dominesey topped Kayden Dupree and Cayden Garrand 6-1, 6-1.
Lake Placid’s Colden Damour and Ian Munson earned a win in the final match because of a forfeit.
On the girls side, Sydney Garrison lost to Callie Racine 6-0, 6-2 and Jennifer Giroux lost to Sydney Lemieux 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles play, Nadia Philip and Kayden Glascock fell to Brynn Hite and Shai Juneau 6-2, 6-2 and Raquel Arreaza and Jenna Audlin lost to Allie Langlis and Kristen Seguin 6-4, 6-2. The Blue Bombers’ Danna Perez and Laura Leon had the closest match of the day, but fell to Grace McCarty and Lucy Hicks 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The Blue Bomber boys improved to 4-2, while the girls fell to 3-3. The two squads will take on the Beekmantown Eagles today on the road at 3:30 p.m.

Saranac Lake 5, Lake Placid 1

The Saranac Lake golf team defeated Lake Placid 5-1 on Monday at the Craig Wood Golf Course.
The Red Storm continued its unbeaten streak, improving to 4-0 overall.
Playing in the second position, the Red Storm’s Noah Jewtraw was co-medalist, defeating Seb Cecunjanin 42-45. Saranac Lake also picked up wins from its number golfers. Carson St. Louis beat Ayden McCormick 43-45; Brice Heery topped Liam Gotham 47-60; Cooper Patnode defeated Nolan Clark 49-77 and Jonah Peckham beat Jack Wright 55-65.
The Blue Bombers earned its lone win in the top match when Carver Bell, who took home co-medalist honors, defeated Ryan McGinnis-Theis 42-43.
The Red Storm was slated to face Northeastern Clinton on the road Tuesday, before returning home to face Ticonderoga at the Ray Brook Golf Course today. Lake Placid will take on Seton Catholic today on the road. All matches will start at 3:30 p.m.
