Versailles family paints memorial rocks that travel around the world

Versailles, Ky. (WKYT) – Almost one year ago, Sara Slusher lost her son, Tony Slusher, in a tragic accident. To keep his spirit alive, she and her nephew decided to paint rocks in his memory. Their artwork has traveled all over the world.

This family’s love for Tony Slusher has spread worldwide from Versailles, Kentucky to as far as Paris, France.

“He had a huge heart, he was one of a kind,” Sara Slusher said.

Each one of Tony Slusher’s rocks has a message attached for anyone who finds one. It tells the finder to post a photo on the Facebook page of where they found it and either keep the rock, or move it somewhere else, to keep his legacy alive.

“It seems like a lot of people who find these rocks were meant to find them or it helps them in some way,” Sara Slusher said.

Tony’s mom and her nephew started the project to bring a smile to people’s faces. What they weren’t expecting, is the amount of love and support they’ve received for Tony.

“We like making people smile,” Wesley Atwood, Sara Slusher’s nephew said.

Their Facebook page, Turn it up for Tony Slusher has amassed 380 members as of Sunday night. People from around the country and beyond have found the rocks and taken them to new places.

“I get to get on there everyday and there’s like all these posts, you know it’s awesome. And there’s people who will comment on there and they’re like, ‘I didn’t know you all but I’m following this because I want to see where these rocks go.’”

Slusher says she hopes the project reaches even more people than it already has.

“It’s amazing that Tony is still having an impact on people’s lives you know, even after he’s not here,” Sara Slusher said.
