Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show returns in 2024: when is it and why was it stopped?
After a six-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is set to return this year, as announced by the company on its social media platforms.
“We’ve read the comments and heard you. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is ✨ BACK ✨ and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more! Stay tuned…it only gets more iconic from here,” reads a post on Instagram.
Details regarding the show are currently limited, but the company has revealed that it will take place at some point during the fall of this year. A specific date, time, and location will be disclosed, as well as the artists who will perform, as the event approaches. The complete list of models will also be announced in the near future.
Reactions to the return of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
After the company announced that the famous show was coming back, social media users were quick to react.
“Oh my God, please bring back the angels from the golden era! Even the ones from the 90s who haven’t catwalked in years,” someone commented.
“WE NEED THE QUEENS. GIVE US GISELLE AND ADRIANA,” wrote another user, requesting the return of Gisele Bündchen – recently included in Tom Brady’s roast – who was the highest-paid model for years, accompanied by Adriana Lima.
“Please, bring back an incredible show, with wings and wonderful angels, of course with a lot of diversity from the current world, but let’s not lose what made Victoria’s Secret fashion shows magical,” someone else added.
Why were the Victoria’s Secret fashion shows cancelled?
Victoria’s Secret held its fashion show every year from 1995 to 2018. The shows were characterized by a runway of models showcasing the brand’s lingerie with various designs. In addition to the ensembles, some of the models sported wings. The runway also featured musical performances, as you can see in the video montage above.
As for the reasons behind the cancellation of the show, one notable factor was a substantial decrease in viewership. Additionally, sales of their bras and underwear also declined.
Furthermore, the company faced criticism for lack of inclusivity, as Victoria’s Secret had exclusively chosen tall and thin models for its shows and did not represent a variety of body types. Other criticisms were focused on the show’s objectification of women. We’ll have to wait and see how the 2024 edition has changed.
