Viking Sports Weekly {August 26} – Cleveland State University
Men’s Soccer
-Cleveland State will continue the 2024 campaign by hosting Chicago State on Friday, August 30, before traveling to Akron on Monday, September 2.
-The Vikings opened the year with a 1-1 draw at Ohio State and then followed that up with a 1-0 victory over St. Bonaventure in the home opener.
-Tom Mertz scored his first collegiate goal against the Buckeyes, while Stephen Yerian recorded his first collegiate shutout against St. Bonaventure.
Women’s Soccer
-The Vikings will hit the road for a pair of games this week, traveling to Niagara on Thursday, August 29 and Saint Francis on Sunday, September 1.
-Last time out, Cleveland State hosted Saint Joseph’s in its first of seven home games during the 2024 campaign.
Volleyball
-Cleveland State will open the 2024 campaign at the UNC Tournament this weekend, facing the host Tarheels (August 30), Western Carolina (August 31) and College of Charleston (September 1).
-The Vikings will be kicking off a 29-match slate, and will be playing in their first of three preseason tournaments.
Cross Country
-The Vikings will begin their 2024 season Friday night, taking part in the Tommy Evans Invite hosted by Akron.
-This will be the first of six events for Cleveland State this year, while also being the first of five Friday night races.
Viking Of The Week
Stephen Yerian, Men’s Soccer
Yerian helped the Vikings to a 1-0-1 opening week, finishing with 12 saves on the two games including his first collegiate shutout against St. Bonaventure.
