Virginia Tech football: EA Sports ranks the Hokies as a Tier 2 team
We are getting closer to the much-anticipated return of EA Sports’ beloved college football game, College Football 25. For those old enough to remember how amazing this game was, it’s an exciting time.
The first EA Sports college game was released in 1993, and the last version was released in 2014. The game ended due to a dispute between the athletes and the NCAA, which is why we never had the players’ names in the game, only their individual likenesses. Of course, if you were a hardcore player, you could enter the names of your favorite players.
The best part about the EA series was if you were a Virginia Tech fan, the Hokies had some terrific teams. You could play as Michael Vick, Cornell Brown, Andre Davis, Lee Suggs, Kevin Jones, David Wilson, Corey Moore, DeAngelo Hall, Ryan Williams, Logan Thomas, or countless others.
Since the game’s last version, the Hokies have not been the same team. However, under head coach Brent Pry, expectations are high in 2024, giving Virginia Tech another reason to want to buy the game.
EA Sports recently tier rankings for the FBS. There were four tiers, and the tier you were assigned to was determined by how each team finished in the final AP Poll rankings over the last decade. The Hokies were in Tier 2 for video game royalties, with $59,925.09 coming their way.
Here are the four tiers:
- Tier 1: $99,875.16
- Tier 2: $59,925.09
- Tier 3: $39,950.06
- Tier 4: $9,987.52
In case you’re curious, Clemson was the only ACC program in Tier 1, while the Hokies, Florida State, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Miami, Louisville and Stanford were in Tier 2.
The game is scheduled to be released on July 19 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.
