Mihaly Akpamgbo, West Salem track and field
West Salem’s defending 6A state champion at 200 meters Mihaly Akpamgbo improved his time in the same event when he placed second at the Oregon Relays in 21.53 seconds. The senior also ran a 100 meter time of 10.77 during prelims, but opted not to run in the final later that day.
Jackie Bier, North Salem track and field
In a dual meet at McNary, North Salem senior Jackie Bier won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.95 seconds — the fastest time in the state this season. She also anchored North’s 4×100 relay team, which finished in 51.86 seconds at the Oregon Relays.
Nelida Dalgas, North Salem track and field
North Salem sophomore Nelida Dalgas took seventh place at 2 miles in 10 minutes, 44 seconds. Dalgas’ 3,000 meter split of 10:00.99 during the race eclipsed her previous personal best in that event by nearly 12 seconds.
Hadley Hughes, Willamina track and field
At the Meet of Champions, Willamina freshman Hadley Hughes notched the third-best discus mark in the state among 2A athletes with a throw of 115 feet, 1 inch. Hughes, who owns the top 2A javelin mark in the state this spring, also finished 11th in her flight in that event at the Oregon Relays.
Avery Meier, West Salem track and field
West Salem sophomore Avery Meier won at 800 meters with a personal best time of 2 minutes, 17.59 seconds at the Sprague vs. West Salem dual meet. That’s the 10th-fastest time in the state among 6A athletes this season. Then, at the Oregon Relays, Meier finished ninth in the 2 mile in 10 minutes, 44.93 seconds.
