Vought headed to OMB with ‘unfinished business’

President-elect Donald Trump is turning once again to a champion of aggressive executive power to effectuate his administration’s goal of taking apart the federal bureaucracy.

Trump announced Friday night that he will nominate Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget, a role Vought held during the previous Trump administration. Vought has backed plans to downsize the civil service and is expected to push the president to reclaim authority over federal spending.

“Russ knows exactly how to dismantle the Deep State and end Weaponized Government, and he will help us return Self Governance to the People,” Trump said on social media in announcing Vought’s nomination.

Vought thanked the president-elect for the selection. “There is unfinished business on behalf of the American people, and it’s an honor of a lifetime to get the call again,” he said.
