Vt. launches website for problem gambling
MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont mental health officials are launching a new website for individuals and families affected by problem gambling.
Vermont in January launched legal online sports betting, which is expected to bring in upwards of $7 million in new revenue this year. But it comes at a time when over 11,600 Vermont residents are estimated to be struggling with a gambling problem, according to the Vermont Department of Mental Health.
Officials say the new VTGamblingHelp.org will provide vital support services to those who play the Vermont Lottery and bet on sports by offering a 24/7 helpline and live chat, a voluntary self-exclusion program, and other treatment options.
Officials say Vermont treatment providers can also use the website to access free training.
