Amazon’s new Knoxville warehouse, which opened earlier in September at the former East Towne Mall site, is expected to create hundreds of seasonal and long-term jobs, with the main hiring focus on delivery station warehouse associate positions.

A wage increase for Amazon employees in Tennessee was announced on Sept. 18, raising the average starting pay from $17 to $21 per hour. The previous Amazon base wage in Tennessee was $19.50 per hour. The new increase will apply to Knoxville delivery station employees.

The Knoxville station marks the company’s first major fulfillment center in the city. It is Amazon’s second facility in East Tennessee, following the launch of a high-tech fulfillment center in Alcoa, which began operations in October.

The 219,000-square-foot Knoxville facility “will enhance Amazon’s last-mile delivery operations to accelerate deliveries for customers in the Tennessee Valley,” according to the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce. As the final step in the distribution process, Amazon delivery station employees will ensure packages reach customers efficiently.

The Knoxville location is also equipped to handle Amazon’s growing fleet of electric vehicles, which have surpassed 15,000 across the U.S. since the company’s commitment to deploy 10,000 in 2022.

Beyond package handling, Delivery Station Warehouse employees are responsible for adhering to safety standards and maintaining the organization of the delivery station. They might use technology such as handheld scanners to track items and ensure they are correctly processed.
