July 4 fireworks in NJ: Where to watch on the Hudson River
For the first time in more than a decade, the annual Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks display will take place over the Hudson River.
July 4. A day to observe 247 years of independence from Great Britain. It’s time for parades, barbecues, fireworks and trips to the beach.
But maybe you need to get some shopping done. Or maybe you want to spend some time at the mall. Maybe you need supplies for that barbecue. And then there are all the discounts and sales centered around the holiday you may want to take advantage of.
NorthJersey.com broke down the Independence Day hours of operation for North Jersey’s malls, big box stores, department stores, grocery stores and other retail outlets. Remember, Independence day is on a Thursday this year. And Friday, July 5, is not a holiday so most stores are back to their regular times of operation.

American Dream in East Rutherford: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Bergen Town Center in Paramus: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Palisades Center in Rockland County: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Paramus Park in Bergen County: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Rockaway Townsquare in Morris County: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Mall at Short Hills in Essex County: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Willowbrook Mall in Wayne: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Retailers, big box stores, department stores
Banks and credit unions: July 4 is a federal holiday, meaning the banks and credit unions are closed. However, ATMs will be available for withdrawals and deposits
Burlington Stores: Hours vary by store, so check your nearest location online before heading over.
CVS: Check the hours at your nearest location before heading over, as stores may have reduced hours.
Dollar Tree: Regular hours, which are typically 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. But check with your nearby store by going online.
Family Dollar: Regular hours, which are typically 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. But check for your nearby location by going online.
Home Depot: Most stores will be open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
HomeGoods: Stores will close at 8 p.m. Check online for opening hours at your nearest location.
