Warning: Scammers work to take spirit out of holiday travel

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Scammers are targeting millions of people who will soon be traveling for the holidays.

Thousands of those travelers have paid for a program called TSA Precheck. The program allows people to pay to go through a prescreening process. It then allows travelers to get through airport security faster and with fewer steps.

People who have TSA Precheck

  • Can leave travel-sized liquids in luggage
  • Don’t need to remove shoes
  • Don’t need to remove jackets

Scammers are targeting travelers with an email that looks like it’s from the program. According to security experts, the email provides a link and encourages you to either enroll in the program or renew your membership. The link is to a fake website.

Any information or payment provided through the site allows scammers to access it.

The benefits the website claims to provide will not work at any US airport.

This scam is an easy one to spot, if you research the program.

  • When you first enroll in TSA PreCheck, you pay in person, not online.
  • Emails from the Transportation Security Administration never contain direct payment links, according to security experts.
