Watch this celebration of friendship on World Friendship Day

“Thank you for being a friend,” as the old Golden Girls theme tune goes. Old or young, friendships are something to cherish and celebrate. Friendships enrich everyone’s life and World Friendship Day is about cherishing the friends we make along the way.

Created by the United Nations in 2011, the International Day of Friendship, as it’s also known, is inspired by the idea that friendship between people, countries, and cultures can promote peace and build bridges.

“Friendship is the only cement that will ever hold the world together,” said Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States. And more than 100 years after his presidency, his words are more relevant than ever.

Camaraderie builds trust, and trust builds harmony, whether between countries or individuals. On a less grandiose level, it just feels nice to call someone a friend.

So, on World Friendship Day, we’re invited to celebrate our friendships and tell our friends how important it is to have them in our lives.

To mark World Friendship Day, watch this teenager go the extra mile to surprise her bestie.
