Even though we no longer have to deal with insane price markups that followed COVID, it’s still not uncommon to blow most of your DIY PC budget on the GPU. Fortunately, Amazon Prime Day 2024 brings with it a pretty decent assortment of NVIDIA GeForce and AMD Radeon video cards at hefty discounts. We’ve listed out all the deals we’ve found so far, as well as a general breakdown of which GPUs you should consider depending on the resolution of your monitor and the type of games that you play.

The Best High-End GPU for 4K Gaming

Amazon currently has the XFX Speedster Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU for only $869.99, making it the least expensive RX 7900 XTX model. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX is AMD’s flagship card, and it’s mean enough to challenge the higher end GeForce RTX 40 series cards like the RTX 4080 and 4080 SUPER at a much lower price point. What this basically means is that this GPU will perform superbly at 1440p and 4K resolutions and you will save $130 or more over going the NVIDIA route.

Although the RX 7900 XTX is a bargain compared to the RTX 4080 or 4090, you actually don’t even need that kind of power to run most games at 4K. The Radeon RX 7900 XT will get the job done at a much lower price point. The RX 7900 XTX is roughly comparable to an RTX 4070 Ti. For $100 more, the Zotac RTX 4070 Ti Super does offer more breathing room so you can tweak the settings even higher. It’s also better at ray tracing than the RX 7900 XT.

Although the RX 7800 XT is less expensive, it actually outperforms the RTX 4070 in many games. It also has more VRAM. However the RTX 4070 has the advantage of superior ray tracing performance and – more importantly – DLSS, which gives it a nice fps boost without compromising too much image quality. Either way, both GPUs will run your games comfortably at 1440p pushing 60fps or higher.

The Best GPU for 1080p Gaming

For a comfortable 1080p gaming experience without breaking the bank, you should opt for either a GeForce RTX 4060 Ti or Radeon RX 7700 XT GPU. The RX 7700 XT benches higher in more games and has more VRAM (12GB vs 8GB) so it scales better at 1440p and higher resolution. On the other hand, the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti once again supports DLSS which is an even bigger advantage with GPUs at this price point where you don’t have extra power to spare. It’s also more energy efficient than the RX 7700 XT. There are even less expensive options available, like the RTX 4060, but the RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7900 XT is a rather large jump in performance for a pretty low price differece that it’s better to go with the better GPU here.
