Weather to create tricky travel for New River Gorge National Park visitors
GLEN JEAN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Those visiting New River Gorge National Park & Preserve (NRGNPP) now through Tuesday will face difficult travel conditions throughout the entire park.
The area that makes up NRGNPP (Fayette, Raleigh, and Summers counties) is currently under a Winter Storm Warning through Tuesday due to incoming Winter Storm Blair.
Forecasters predict heavy mixed precipitation, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 10 inches and ice accumulations ranging from one-tenth to half an inch.
Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 35 mph, potentially exacerbating hazardous conditions.
Hazardous Travel and Power Concerns
The storm is expected to bring widespread disruptions, including power outages and tree damage due to ice accumulation.
Weather officials warn that travel may become nearly impossible, particularly during Monday’s morning and evening commutes.
Safety Precautions Urged
Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Those who must drive are advised to carry an emergency kit, including a flashlight, food, and water, in their vehicles. For the latest road conditions, travelers can call 511 for updates.
As of now, no weather-related closures have been announced by park officials.
