Wednesday Job Fair at Palmer Arena Ready to Go; for Quaker Employees and ANYONE Wanting to Learn about Local Career Opportunities
A soon as the announcement came back on April 3rd that Danville’s Quaker Oats plant was closing, a local “circle the wagons” mentality to help over 500 people find new jobs went into effect. Heavily involved have been Vermilion Advantage, as well as Vermilion County Works over at the American Job Center.
Now, Wednesday April 24th, a Jobs Fair/Career Expo at the David S. Palmer Arena is set to begin at 9 AM. This is for not only Quaker employees looking for new opportunities, but anyone within the region who wants to learn about working opportunities in the Danville area. Over 70 employers are scheduled to be there. And as Vermilion Advantage CEO Mike Marron points out, youngsters just starting out their working careers are welcome.
AUDIO: We’re working hard trying to find every possible avenue to help the Quaker employees that we can. We have a lot of employers from the community with ready jobs available. We’re hoping for a really good turnout. I know we’ve got a lot of high school age coming between 9 and 11. We want anybody that’s interested in employment, and what’s available out there. to stop by.
The April 3rd announcement of Danville’s Quaker Oats plant closing initiated local and area efforts to let interested employees know what is available locally.
And as Vermilion County Works Director Chuck Jones points out, this is a great opportunity to meet a potential employer in person. So dress decently, bring a resume if you have one, and be ready to talk face to face.
AUDIO: So many applications anymore are done electronically, online; and you don’t get that many opportunities to meet people one-on-one. But this represents a unique opportunity to actually interact with real human beings, and be able to make an impression on a potential employer. So, certainly, we encourage people to be prepared.
Wednesday’s Career Expo and Jobs Fair at the David S. Palmer Arena will run from 9 AM to 3 PM.
