Weekend Entertainment | WaterFire and Hola Fest

With its blue skies, warm sunshine and low humidity, September is the sweetest month of the year in our neck of the woods.

And Saturday will bring two good reasons to enjoy the outdoors: the WaterFire festival in downtown Sharon, Pa., and Hola Fest, a celebration of the Mahoning Valley’s Hispanic community, in Wean Park in downtown Youngstown.

WaterFire always has an artsy atmosphere and unusual entertainers, such as perennial favorite Jimmy Pyro, who likes to play with fire.

The festival also features a vendor village, live music and all kinds of food. It reaches its climax at dusk when braziers piled with wood and moored to the surface of the Shenango River are set ablaze in a primal ceremony.

Hola Fest will begin with a parade at noon along Front Street that will be followed by a full day of events and entertainment.

The musical lineup will include headliner Tony Succar, a Latin Grammy winner, at 7:30 p.m., Youngstown’s great band The Labra Brothers at 6 p.m., Mambo Caliente at 4:30 p.m. and Conjunto Riquena at 3 p.m. For information, click HERE.

Also on Saturday is the Columbiana Craft Beerfest at TownCenter at Firestone Farms, which is at the intersection of state Routes 7 and 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. Click HERE.
