Wegmans is piloting new smart shopping cart technology at three New York locations: in Perinton, Pittsford, and on Alberta Drive in Buffalo.
The Smart Cart Test & Learn pilot aims to explore whether the technology aligns with Wegmans’ unique product offerings and meets customer needs, said company spokesperson Mandee Puleo.
This is the latest in a series of tech trials by Wegmans. In 2022, the company discontinued its SCAN app due to inventory loss, and earlier this year, it tested AI-powered shopping carts from Shopic, which use cameras and sensors to track items placed in the cart.
Wegmans will limit the current pilot to these three stores as it gathers customer feedback for potential future rollouts.
