Monday, December 9, 2024

Wego’s November report reveals a surge in travel demand from India, with Diwali and other festivals driving increased searches, bookings, and affordable airfares.

In November, Wego reported a 17.10% surge in international flight searches originating from India, showcasing substantial growth compared to the same time last year. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, particularly Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, dominated as the most searched destinations by Indian travelers during this period.

Thailand, Qatar, Oman, Malaysia, Bahrain, the United States, and Indonesia also emerged as favored travel destinations during this period.

Festive Season Drives Travel Demand

Bernard Corraya, General Manager for India at Wego, highlighted that Diwali significantly influences travel trends, with many expatriates timing their annual visits around this major festival. The extended holidays in November provided Indian travelers with ample opportunities to explore destinations, boosting domestic and international travel.

Festivals like Guru Nanak Jayanti and Chhath Puja further amplified the holiday spirit, offering long weekends that encouraged both short getaways and extended vacations. This festive convergence created a perfect environment for heightened travel activity, reinvigorating the industry and fueling demand across the sector.

Airfare Trends Reflect Strong Demand

Wego’s data revealed that average airfare from India to the top 10 destinations experienced a month-over-month growth of up to 34.43%, highlighting a consistent rise in travel demand after the Diwali celebrations.
However, when compared year-over-year, most destinations experienced a decline in airfares. For instance, flights to Qatar and Kuwait saw average prices drop by 38.05% and 15.36%, respectively, offering more affordable options for travelers.
