Weird flex but OK: New Columbia County fitness studio can stretch you to your limits

The owners of a new Columbia County business say that supervised body stretches could be a key to better health.

StretchLab, a national franchise that specializes in assisted stretching to promote wellness, will play host to its grand opening Aug. 9 and 10.

StretchLab held a ribbon-cutting at 620 Mullins Colony Dr. in Evans on Aug. 2.

The stretching studio offers several types of motion routines for customers to try, either one-on-one with a trainer, called a “flexologist,” or group stretches with others.

Stretching has long proved beneficial to gymnasts, dancers and other athletes in improving flexibility and range of motion.

StretchLab’s Evans franchisees are Pat and Shirley Wulf, who love cycling, pickleball and similar physical activities. Their previous professional careers were spent in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

“If it weren’t for our regular assisted stretches at StretchLab, we recognize that we would not be able to participate in these activities as much as we do now,” Shirley Wulf said. “We’re confident in saying that StretchLab has truly elevated our quality of life and cannot wait to further share our experience with more local community members at our new location in Evans.”

The franchise also uses MAPS, a 3-D, computer-assisted assessment tool that scans customers to gauge their mobility, activation, posture and symmetry.

StretchLab Evans is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
