We’ve got the drama (when it comes to local theater), plus food news and weekend options

Since its earliest days, Wilmington has been a theater town.

The Port City’s longest-serving troupe, the Thalian Association, dates its origins to 1788, and the Thalians are (very) active to this day: Its production of “Godspell” ends its run on Sunday (see below).

Two other shows, musical “Fiddler on the Roof” and play “Shining City,” are on the Wilmington boards this week, the latter produced a by a brand-new company, Sihr Theatre, which just goes to show how the local theater scene continues to evolve.

Used to be, the StarNews reviewed most every play in town. Those days are sadly behind us for lots of reasons, but we still review shows when we can.

So get out and see a show! Or take a gander at some of the weekend’s other options, below.

Weekend weather outlook

After some tantalizingly cool mornings this week, the weekend will remind us that it’s not quite fall yet. Highs in the low to mid-80s, lows near 70, and a 50% chance of rain on Saturday.

Go | See | Do

It’s the last weekend before Labor Day Weekend, and things are really starting to shift into fall mode events-wise.

Two classic musicals, “Godspell” and “Fiddler on the Roof,” will close (here’s our review of “Fiddler”), while the acclaimed play “Shining City” will open. Plus, a “Saturday Night Live” cast member comes to town to do standup and couple of locally filmed movies will premiere.
