What brother of combative Yankees fan saw on wild interference play: ‘Not good’

Mookie Betts didn’t hesitate to let two Yankees fans know they’d messed up.

A pair of determined Bronx Bombers supporters along the right-field wall aggressively attempted to wrestle Gleyber Torres’ foul ball out of Betts’ glove in the first inning of Tuesday’s World Series Game 4 in a shameful scene that saw the spectators quickly removed from Yankee Stadium.

“I just see the ball kind of — I don’t want to say (go) up for grabs, if that makes sense,” Darren Capobianco told The Athletic of his brother Austin’s interference on the play. “And then Mookie was swearing at us. Not good.”

Anthony, a Connecticut resident, told the outlet via text, “I just want to watch the game.”

If he did get to see the rest of the season-extending 11-4 win, it’s unclear from where.

His inability to keep his hands to himself in the moment earned Torres an automatic out for fan interference.

That meant Austin Capobianco — and the fellow overzealous fan next to him (not brother Darren) — missed Torres’ monster eighth-inning home run, a three-run blast that opened in the floodgates in the Yankees’ first win of the World Series.

Betts didn’t want to rehash the incident, telling reporters that he wasn’t injured.

“I didn’t even know he grabbed my hand,” he said. “It’s perfectly fine.”

If there were any lingering feelings, the eight-time All-Star didn’t let on.

“When it comes to the person and play, it doesn’t matter,” he said. “We lost. It’s irrelevant. I’m fine, he’s fine. Everything’s cool. We lost the game, that’s what I’m focused on. Turn the page and get ready for tomorrow.”

Capobianco did earn a place in at least one other Yankees fan’s heart with his intensity.

“I saw him being walked out,” one fan told The Athletic. “I told him he was my hero for trying to save the Yankees. It’s the championship game.”
