OMAHA, Neb. — Florida baseball will look to stave off elimination from the College World Series when it faces North Carolina State on Monday at Charles Schwab Field.
The Florida Gators (34-29) haven’t gone two-and-out in CWS play since 2016, when Florida dropped back-to-back games to Coastal Carolina and Texas Tech.
Florida is coming off a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M on Saturday night in its CWS opener and will need to win four games in a row — beginning Monday against the Wolfpack — to reach the CWS Finals for the second straight year. The last team to lose its opening game in the CWS and rally back to win a national championship at the event was Oregon State in 2018.
NC State (38-22) is coming off a 5-4, 10-inning loss to Kentucky on Saturday afternoon.
The Gators have made 14 trips to the CWS in school history and nine under head coach Kevin O’Sullivan. With the loss to Texas A&M, Florida dropped to 25-27 all-time in CWS games.
