NC State baseball closed out Georgia in the Athens Super Regional to advance to the College World Series.

The No. 10 overall seed Wolfpack will get another SEC challenge when it faces No. 2 national seed Kentucky in the CWS, the third game of the double-elimination tournament and the opener for both squads at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. The Wolfpack is making its fourth trip to the CWS, while this is the first in program history for the Wildcats.

NC State swept through the Raleigh Regional with wins over Bryant, South Carolina, and James Madison. Then, it defeated Georgia 2-1 in the Athens Super Regional to make its first CWS since 2021. Kentucky swept through Western Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana State to win the Lexington Regional before sweeping Oregon State 2-0 to win the super regional and advance.

NC State and Kentucky have faced off on the diamond five times all time before Saturday’s matchup, with the Wolfpack holding a 3-2 advantage. The two last faced off in the Lexington Regional in 2017. NC State beat Kentucky 5-4 in the winner’s bracket game, but the Wildcats defeated the Wolfpack 8-6 and 10-5 in the regional championship.
