What to do if travel plans are impacted by Tropical Storm Francine

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Clay Ingram with AAA Alabama said if you have travel plans this week, stay informed. He recommends knowing the path of Tropical Storm Francine and what kind of damage can be expected, especially if you are driving. If your destination is within the path of the storm, Ingram suggests being flexible with your plans.

People flying in the coming days may experience delays or cancellations depending on where you’re traveling.

Ingram said regardless of when you’re traveling, you should always consider purchasing travel insurance.

“Some people think it’s unnecessary and almost sort of a scam or something, but it’s really a great thing and it’s not very expensive. It’s usually about 10% of your overall travel expense. If you’re just booking a hotel at the Gulf Coast and you’re driving down there and back, you might not need it, but if you’re investing some money and a pretty significant trip – if you’re getting on a plane or a boat or leaving the country, then you definitely need to consider that. Take a look at it so that you’re protecting your investment,” said Ingram.

If Francine causes any damage to oil or gas infrastructure, there is a chance gas prices will rise. Ingram said it’s unlikely, but still something to keep an eye on.
