What Vogue Wants to See on the Red Carpet During the 2025 Awards Season

Awards season is officially here! The 2025 Golden Globes are especially early this year, kicking the party off on January 5. The Globes are said to be the most fun awards show (read: the only one with an open bar), so we’re expecting a lively start to the season, emceed with aplomb by Nikki Glaser.

The 2024 Globes attendees didn’t come to play, bringing capes, veils, sequins, and—chiefly—fun to the red carpet. So we’ve got high expectations for the fashion fans among this year’s cohort: Zendaya, Mikey Madison, Saoirse Ronan, Colman Domingo, and Danielle Deadwyler among them.

Below Vogue’s fashion writers Christian Allaire and Hannah Jackson discuss what they’re hoping to see on the red carpet this coming awards season.

Christian Allaire: Hi Hannah! First of all, let’s start with what movies we are excited about being on the awards season roster. Personally, some of my favorite films of the year were Challengers, A Complete Unknown, The Substance, and Wicked. Still dying to see Anora, The Last Showgirl, and Maria. What about you?

Hannah Jackson: Christian! Thank you soooo much for asking. My favorite films of the year were Anora, Conclave, and Challengers and—if I was a betting woman—I’d put money on Conclave taking Best Picture. I also just saw Babygirl and A Real Pain, both of which I really enjoyed. I could definitely see Kieran Culkin walking away with a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars.

CA: A lot of these movies’ leading actors have been making their press rounds for the film. We have a bit of a teaser, then, in terms of what to expect come the awards season red carpet. What are the stars that have stood out to you fashion-wise?

HJ: Well I know we’ve both been kvelling over Mikey Madison and her movie star transformation. I’ve also been captivated by Saoirse Ronan this season, thanks to her recent work with Danielle Goldberg. The two have absolutely nailed movie star elegance in a really modern way. Huge kudos to Nicolas Ghesquière and the Louis Vuitton team for creating so many lovely, unexpected gowns for her. It just goes to show that these classically elegant awards season-friendly looks don’t have to be boring! I also really appreciate her eagerness to break away from the traditional and try out younger, more avant garde brands like Hodakova and Colleen Allen. Who are you obsessing over?
