Pete Rose found dead in Clark County, Nevada, home on Monday
Rose was found dead at his Clark County, Nevada, home Monday, according to officials. The Clark County coroner’s spokeswoman confirmed Rose’s death and provided no other details, the Enquirer reports. He was with former teammates in Nashville the day before he died, according to the Enquirer.
A family member found Rose, ABC News reports. According to ABC, the county medical examiner indicated there were no signs of foul play and that Rose had not been in the care of a doctor at the time of his death.
Rose was banned from baseball in 1989 for gambling while manager of the Reds, according to his obituary in the Enquirer.
Four years earlier, he broke Cobb’s hit record. Rose is MLB’s all-time hits leader with 4,256, a record that still stands today.
The lifetime ban from the game kept Rose out of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
