When did ‘Shark Week’ start?

“Shark Week” began on July 17, 1988, according to MegellanTV

It is the longest-running program event on cable TV and will have its 36th year on television.

Why did ‘Shark Week’ start?

According to People, the “Shark Week” programming event was launched to educate viewers on sharks.

Steven Spielberg’s movie “Jaws,” which was released in 1975, impacted the popular perception of sharks, scattering many misconceptions about sharks. “Jaws” depicted hypothetical and fictional scenarios, but it portrayed sharks as menacing predators and shaped the public’s opinion of sharks.

About 13 years later, Discovery Channel launched “Shark Week.” It aims to explore sharks’ strength, magnificence, and importance, counter negative representations of sharks, and understand the role they play in keeping oceans healthy.

Who’s hosting ‘Shark Week’ this year?

Actor, producer, and former professional wrestler John Cena will host the 36th annual “Shark Week” programming.

“Aquaman” star Jason Momoa hosted Shark Week 2023.

What’s on this year’s ‘Shark Week’ lineup?

The official “Shark Week” schedule isn’t out yet, but according to the “Shark Week” website, it should swim to the surface soon. However, Discovery did announce the next installment of “Belly of the Beast,” which explores a great white shark feeding frenzy.

Other “Shark Week” 2024 shows include “Monster Hammerhead: Species X” (a look at a potential new hammerhead species) and “Great White Serial Killer: Sea of Blood” (which follows a great white shark terrorizing a local village).
